Florida 44, North Florida 18 on Saturday, October 17 at UVS Field. The men's A XV turned in their best performance of the fall in their first home game, the B side took a steep test against Embry-Riddle, and the women fell 24-26 to UCF.
The Gators played their first home matches of the fall on Saturday, October 17 at UVS Field, on an excellent surface prepared by the University. A full day of rugby brought a big men's A XV win, a development run out for the B side, and a narrow women's loss.
Men's A XV: Florida 44, North Florida 18
The A XV played their best game of the semester so far and came out on top 44-18 over North Florida, who are rebuilding after a national championship last year and a number of graduations. Peter Sciortino and captain Matt Boylan both scored a brace of tries, fronting a dominant forwards performance. Joe Pankhurst controlled things at fly-half, and Danny Mata kicked well from the tee to keep the scoreboard moving.
Men's B Side vs Embry-Riddle
The B side then took on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's A team, a very steep challenge considering it was only the second run out for most of the squad. The scoreboard did not reflect the shape of the game, where a number of the B side, including Tim Peoples and Hernan Mora, began to perform at A team standard.
Women: Florida 24, UCF 26
The women fell 24-26 to UCF. Jessie Engel scored one try and Maiya Bowers scored three, with Bowers adding two conversions. A fuller women's game report will follow later this week.
What Comes Next
The men step up another level next week with USF at home. Full schedule and results are on the men's and women's schedule pages.
